Having left Birminham University in 1981, I pursued a career in software development, starting my own accountancy, project and legal software business in 1983 which is still running today. Projects include a complete accounts and stock system from scratch for a local ironmongery wholesaler. In the eighties, I wrote the original PC Secretary company secretarial software which was marketed by Jordans and endorsed as favoured product by the Institute of Chartered Accountants. I have maintained an interest in limited company administration ever since.

My areas of responsibility at Discountants are software, client relations and business development. We believe that the Discountants concept of reasonably priced practical accountancy will enable us to spread the business out from our base in Bristol until we are known nationally. I realise that this won't happen without very satisfied customers and it is my responsibility to make sure you are getting the service you want from us. As I've mentioned above, I've run my own business continuously for over 20 years so I understand better than most the pitfalls you should avoid and the benefits you should experience.

So much of accountancy is wrapped up in computers these days that we believe our service needs a dedicated software specialist. Much of my career has been in software development and IT consulting and this is where our strength in this area comes from. I have developed the DO (Discountants Online) software for our clients. It gives the self employed and small business owner a fighting chance to stay on top of paperwork, using a tool previously unavailable. The two bags and one rule system is part of our ongoing dedication to finding simple, practical ways which will help our clients deal with their admin in easier and more productive ways.

I am a member of the AAT, having undertaken three years training. I have over 20 years accountancy experience with small and medium sized businesses. The smallest company I have worked for was a one man band where I ran all the accounts and administrative functions. On the other hand the largest company I have worked for is the Bank of Ireland! I have extensive experience with Sage software gained at a building company with a turnover of £20M. As I worked for many years in "real businesses" before becoming a "career accountant" I bring a deeper practical understanding of clients needs, especially the self employed and small businesses to my accountancy business.

I came to England as a teenager way back in 1981 when eastern Europe was still communist and the Berlin wall was still standing. My father was a free-thinking journalist with connections to Solidarity which made it impossible for me to return to my native Poland, even to visit, until the communist regime had fallen. My main language is now English, so much so that apparently I now have an odd accent in Polish!

I set up Discountants last year with the aim of providing a realistically priced accountancy service which is conscientiously dedicated to clients needs in a practical way. My goal is to have a satisfied client base who all feel that they are benefitting from their relationship with Discountants, getting good value for money, good advice, smoother running businesses and consistently low tax bills!
